This is Ivy League - London Bridges

6 04 2008

They grow on trees in Brooklyn, don’t you know? Yes, another hipstery Brooklyn band to add to the list but This Is Ivy League excel in writing brilliantly crafted pop songs in the vein of Kings of Convenience, Belle & Sebastian & Simon and Garfunkel. They have yet to release their debut album and, as far as I know, have only released an EP so far which features the tremendous ‘London Bridges’, which you can peek at below. It’s one of those addictive smile-enducing pop songs. It also has a melody (particularly on the guitar solo at the end of the song and some of the backing vocal melodies) extremely remeniscent of some other song but I can’t for the life of me figure out what it is - prizes for anyone who can tell me before all my hair ends up pulled out in frustration. Oh, and thanks to YesBoy Emmet for the tip.
