Bruce Springsteen v Chromatics v Bat For Lashes

16 01 2008

There’s something very post-modern about this but I came across a home-made video for Chromatics cover of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘I’m on Fire’ using footage from the original Bruce video but it really works well with Chromatics late night city driving sound. It’s actually well worth visiting Chromatics Myspace Page as they have a bunch of songs that you can download free and they’re all great. You’ll also find their version of Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ which is also glorious. They’re playing London in April so hopefully someone will bring them over here.

Chromatics are not the only artist to have covered ‘I’m on Fire’ recently. Bat For Lashes also included it as a bonus track on some versions of her ‘Fur and Gold’ album and her version is also really good. The thing is, I’m not much of a Bruce fan and I prefer both of these versions to the original. I haven’t decided which I prefer though. I think it’s fair to call it a draw.

Good cover version from Chromatics but love the Bat for Lashes cover- funny thing is though that when the song is going through the head it’s a duet with Natasha and Bruce! Had a listen to Running up That Hill as well and pretty good but would take a lot to beat Placebo’s cover which I actually prefer to the original.
