Last night, I headed down to the launch of State Magazine in the Jameson Distillery in Smithfield, along with half of the Irish music industry, as I have been doing some writing for them. Am glad to say that after all the recent discussions over the last few days, State looks great. Texture and scent-wise (but in no other way), it resembles Mongrel magazine. It has managed to get the balance right between more commercial acts and lesser-known acts and has fit into the gap which the Irish music press was missing (I suppose sitting somewhere between Hot Press and Foggy Notions). I haven’t had the chance to read the entire magazine yet but the quality of writing seems (honestly and unbiasedly) really good to me. It was great to see that there seems to be a huge amount of goodwill towards the magazine and a lot of people really want it to succeed. Hopefully, State will be rewarded with sales now and can continue to grow. I look forward to Issue 2 already.
